Do you find mosquitoes incredibly annoying? Who wants to be bitten by mosquitoes, right? I know I don’t! Not only are those bites incredibly itchy, but mosquitoes can also spread dangerous diseases like Zika, West Nile, malaria, and more. Therefore, it’s essential to protect yourself from mosquito bites whenever you can.

The good news is you don’t have to resort to store-bought chemical sprays to do this. There are plenty of natural ways to repel mosquitoes without exposing yourself to harsh chemicals. And making your own natural mosquito repellent at home is cheap, easy, and effective!

In this mosquito repellent recipe, we’ll be using two main ingredients: white vinegar and cinnamon sticks. Both of these ingredients are easily found in any grocery store for just a few dollars.

Let’s start with the white vinegar. White vinegar contains high amounts of acetic acid, which gives it antibacterial, antifungal, and disinfectant properties. Mosquitoes dislike the smell of vinegar. So, when you apply or spray a vinegar solution directly onto your skin, it helps mask the natural odors of your body that would normally attract mosquitoes to you. The strong smell of vinegar overwhelms the mosquitoes’ senses, practically hiding you from them.

Next, we have cinnamon. Cinnamon sticks contain antimicrobial compounds called cinnamaldehyde, which give cinnamon its distinct spicy aroma and taste. This strong smell of cinnamon is not appealing and repels mosquitoes. It confuses their senses and discourages them from landing on you.

So, by combining these two ingredients – vinegar that repels mosquitoes and cinnamon that repels mosquitoes – you get a super effective and natural insect repellent spray!

Now, let’s move on to the complete recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 2 cinnamon sticks;
  • 1/2 liter or 500 ml of white vinegar;
  • 100 ml or 1/4 cup of water;

First, add the cinnamon sticks and white vinegar to a glass jar or bottle. Let this mixture sit for 1-2 weeks for the cinnamon scent to fully infuse into the vinegar. After 1-2 weeks, strain out the cinnamon sticks through a fine sieve. Now, add the water to the infused vinegar and mix well to combine.

And that’s it – you’ve made your own natural mosquito repellent spray! To use it, simply spray or rub it directly onto any exposed skin before heading outdoors. Pay special attention to applying it to ankles, wrists, neck, and other areas where mosquitoes like to bite. Reapply every few hours as needed.

The wonderful thing about this mosquito repellent spray is that not only is it affordable and easy to make at home, but it’s also safe and non-toxic. You don’t have to worry about exposing yourself or your family to unhealthy chemicals. And it smells great thanks to the cinnamon!

I like to keep a bottle of this mosquito repellent spray by the door so I can give a quick spritz before heading out on warm summer nights when mosquitoes are fully active. It’s been extremely effective in keeping them away from me during backyard barbecues, campfires, camping trips, and all sorts of other outdoor activities.
