‘You’re alive!’ Wildfire victim has emotional reunion with his dog

A Heartfelt Reunion Amidst the Chaos

In the bustling city of Los Angeles, a harrowing week unfolded as relentless fires swept through, casting shadows of despair. Yet, amidst the charred remains and smoky air, a touching moment of hope emerged. A man found his lost dog, rekindling a spark of joy in the thick of tragedy.

A heartfelt video shared by NBC News correspondent Liz Kreutz captures the uplifting moment when Casey Colvin was reunited with his beloved dog, Oreo. This loyal companion had braved five long nights amidst the ashes left by the Palisades Fire, which had engulfed their Pacific Palisades home.

Colvin was not present when the fire ignited on January 7. However, he rushed back with hopes of saving his two dogs, Oreo and Tika Tika Tika. The first responders successfully reunited him with Tika Tika Tika. But Oreo, whom Colvin lovingly referred to as “behavioral,” had bolted from the house in fear.

The video shows Oreo meandering down a driveway, drawn by the familiar calls of Colvin and Tikka Tikka Tikka. Colvin is visibly moved, his relief palpable as he embraces Oreo, expressing gratitude for their reunion.

With tears in his eyes, Colvin exclaims, “Oh honey, you’re alive, you’re alive! Oh, thank you, God!” It’s a poignant reminder of the deep bond between humans and their pets.

Searching for Loved Ones

Throughout the region, countless pet owners are clinging to hope, searching tirelessly for their missing furry family members. Meanwhile, those who have found animals are eager to reconnect them with their rightful families.

Social media has become a vital tool in this mission. Multiple Facebook groups and platforms like PetReconnect have been set up, facilitating communication and aiding in the search efforts for lost pets.

One notable post emerged in a Facebook group dedicated to missing animals in the Altadena and Pasadena area. Jennifer Wratten Avila shared a story of a scared, hungry, and thirsty dog discovered in her backyard. Her heartwarming update later confirmed that the dog was happily reunited with its owners.

A Community Steps Up to Help

The compassion and generosity of the community have been remarkable. To support pets impacted by the fires, the Pasadena Humane Society and the Los Angeles County Animal Care Foundation are actively accepting donations.

Moreover, Los Angeles Animal Services, along with the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control, are calling on the public to foster animals. By offering temporary homes, they hope to ease the burden on overcrowded shelters.
