As Roy sat in his favorite restaurant, preparing to propose to his beloved Karen, he felt a slight tap on his pocket. It was a discreet note placed there by a waiter, and little did Roy know, this note would change everything.
Roy, a young 24-year-old software developer, was living his dream. His tech skills ensured he had a prosperous career, allowing him to spend quality time with the people he loved.
Roy held his family close, sharing his home with his parents who were dealing with arthritis. Karen, his girlfriend of six months, had seamlessly become part of this nurturing environment. Her grace and assistance were invaluable, making Roy consider her as his future wife.
Their relationship had the blessing of Roy’s parents. His mother, Lana, had always been supportive. “It’s about time,” she said, affirming his decision to propose.
Encouraged by his parents’ positive reactions, Roy went out and purchased a special ring, just perfect for Karen.
“I’m doing this,” Roy reassured himself as he psyched himself up to ask Karen out for dinner that night. “Hey love,” he said over the phone. “How about dinner at Alberto’s tonight? It would be lovely.” Karen excitedly agreed.
As they settled in for their meal, Roy noticed a new waiter who kept a close eye on them. The man seemed odd, yet Roy brushed it off.
The dinner was going smoothly until a security officer informed Roy that his car was being towed. In a panic, he rushed outside only to find his car still in its spot. Upon returning, the waiter clumsily dropped his tray near Roy’s leg, slyly slipping a note into his pocket.
Feeling uneasy, Roy discreetly unfolded the note. “Don’t drink the wine! Police are on their way!” Alarmed, he pondered its meaning.
Within minutes, the police arrived, and much to Roy’s shock, Karen was apprehended. He had missed the underlying drama until the waiter yelled, “Go home now!”
In a dash accompanied by officers, Roy drove home. There he spotted a man escaping his house with a bag. Karen and this man were partners in crime, married for several years, preying on unsuspecting individuals.
Thankfully, Roy’s parents were at the movies, safe from harm. After the ordeal, Roy went back to the restaurant to thank the waiter who had saved him. The new waiter shared his history, explaining how he recognized Karen from a similar scheme in a distant city.
“I couldn’t let her pull this off again,” the waiter said. Roy’s gratitude was immense, and he rewarded the waiter generously.
Karen and her husband faced justice, getting jailed for their crimes. Despite her betrayal, Roy visited her in prison for closure, yet she remained unfazed, laughing at his distress.
Despite this, Roy moved on, cherishing his second chance and the kindness from a stranger who was quick to act.
