Donald Trump has made a bold decision to halt the provision of X-gender passports for American citizens, a move initially implemented under the leadership of former President Biden. This decision leaves many individuals who identify with this gender feeling uncertain about their identification options.
After assuming the presidency, Trump clearly stated his belief that there are only two genders: male and female, sparking reactions from those who identify differently. By signing executive orders, he instructed federal agencies to maintain only male and female gender options, aiming to reverse several policies introduced by his predecessor.
This decision means that American passports will now only reflect a person’s biological gender as stated in his Executive Order. According to a departmental spokesperson, the U.S. no longer issues passports with X markers. Consequently, all passport applications under this category seeking an alternative gender marker beyond those specified in the executive order will be suspended.
