Rapper Passes Away at 54; Heartfelt Tributes Pour In

The music world has lost a cherished talent, as Oakland’s own big rapper.

The news of his passing was shared by fellow artist and Golden State Project member Xzibit, who announced that the rapper died at 8:45 a.m. on a Tuesday morning.

Xzibit expressed his grief on social media, stating, “I can’t believe I’m writing this right now, but don’t know what else to do at the moment.” His deep bond with the rapper made it difficult to put his feelings into words.

Referring to Saafir as his “brother,” Xzibit conveyed the depth of their relationship, saying, “We have so much history I can’t even explain what I’m feeling right now. We surrounded him and let him know how much we loved him. He can rest now.”

The Hip Hop community has been asked by Xzibit to offer support to Saafir’s family, particularly his younger brother and son. During this difficult time, he emphasized the importance of community and solidarity.

Ending his heartfelt message, Xzibit said, “We love you Bro. REST IN POWER.”

Details surrounding Saafir’s cause of death have not been disclosed. It’s known that he faced significant health challenges, including the removal of a cancerous tumor from his spine, which led to him using a wheelchair.

Saafir passed away in his hometown of Oakland, California, surrounded by those who loved him.

Known for his work with the rap group Golden State Project alongside Xzibit and Ras Kass, Saafir was originally part of a project that sought to name itself after the NBA team, the Golden State Warriors. However, legal challenges caused them to choose a different name.

Saafir was also part of Digital Underground, a group established in 1987 featuring artists like Tupac Shakur and Shock G.

Moreover, Saafir’s talents extended beyond the music realm. He appeared in the popular 1993 movie “Menace II Society,” playing the role of Harold Lawson and acting alongside well-known actors like Jada Pinkett Smith, Samuel L. Jackson, and Larenz Tate.

His music was featured on the film’s soundtrack, showcasing his versatile talent.

His career reached a significant milestone when he secured a major record deal with Quincy Jones, leading to the release of his debut album, “Boxcar Sessions.” Quincy Jones, a legendary figure in music, unfortunately passed away earlier this month at the age of 91.

The loss of Saafir is deeply felt across the music community.

His contributions, both in music and film, left a lasting impact on fans and peers alike.
