Dolly Parton’s cherished older brother, David Wilburn Parton, has passed at the age of 82.
News of his passing was shared by their sister, Stella Parton, who took to social media on a somber Friday, November 15.
Stella, aged 75, expressed her sorrow on X (formerly known as Twitter), stating, “My brother David passed away peacefully this morning. It’s never easy to say goodbye to a loved one, but he got his angel wings and is now at peace.”
Fondly remembered as “sweet David” due to his gentle nature and unwavering loyalty, Stella further described him as a man of kindness. Notably, he also served as a US Marine, a point of pride noted in an additional tweet by Stella.
Adding to her messages on social media platforms, Stella wrote on Facebook, “It’s never easy to lose a loved one. My wonderful brother David Parton passed in the early hours of the morning.”
During this challenging time, Stella continued, “Thank you for all your kind thoughts towards my family as we continue to grieve the loss of our much-loved and cherished oldest brother David.”
As confirmed by his obituary, David peacefully left this world at his residence in White Pine, Tennessee. The arrangements for his funeral are set for the upcoming Tuesday at the Leadvale Baptist Church.
Dolly, now 78, has not yet publicly addressed her brother’s passing.
Attempts were made to reach out to Dolly’s representatives for a comment.
David had a notable career as a retired bridge builder superintendent with Simpson Construction. His work contributed significantly to bridge projects in the regions of Kingsport, Johnson City, and Knoxville.
Left to honor his memory are David’s close family, including his devoted wife of 45 years, Kay Parton, his loving daughters Donna and Dena, along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Out of the 11 Parton siblings, David was the second eldest. The remaining siblings who are still with us are Willadeene, 84, Coy, 81, Dolly, Robert Jr., 76, Stella, Cassie, 73, Freida, 67, and Rachel, 65. Unfortunately, he was preceded in death by three other siblings, Randy, Larry, and Floyd.
The family had most recently mourned the passing of their sibling Randy, prior to David’s departure. Randy succumbed to cancer at the age of 67 in 2021.
When Randy passed, Dolly shared her deep sadness on Facebook, saying, “My brother Randy has lost his battle with cancer. The family and I are grieving his loss but we know he is in a better place than we are at this time.”
With a palpable sense of faith and resolve, Dolly added, “We are a family of faith and we believe that he is safe with God and that he is joined by members of the family that have gone on before and have welcomed him with joy and open arms.”
