Martha, a 39-year-old mother from Medellin, Colombia, has recently shared exciting news about her expanding family. She is expecting her 20th child, despite already having a large family of nineteen children.

For Martha, motherhood isn’t just a calling; she views it as a business. She’s determined to continue growing her family for as long as she is able, with children fathered by different men.

“Being a mom is like a business,” Martha shares candidly. “With each child, the government provides some support, which helps me get by.”

To paint a clearer picture, she receives approximately $500 each month from the government to assist with the upbringing of her 19 children. Though feeding this many is a challenge, Martha wouldn’t trade her unique family dynamic for anything.

Martha explains that her need to continuously welcome new additions to her family is partly because her children are growing up and will soon begin lives of their own.
