Mask Mandates Return as Doctors Warn About ‘Quad-Demic’ Threats

As the holiday season wraps up, four different viruses are rapidly spreading across the United States. Millions of people have returned from holiday travels, contributing to this wave of illnesses.

Leading experts have reported an increase in infections from COVID-19, flu, norovirus, and RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) during holiday gatherings where families and friends came together in large numbers.

Health experts are sending out warnings that these numbers are likely to grow in the upcoming weeks, as the country is now in the height of flu season.

The current data also indicates a significant rise in norovirus cases, marking the most substantial increase seen since 2012. This situation has become a cause for concern.

Conversations around this critical health issue have pointed out a dramatic 40% rise in hospital admissions due to RSV within just two weeks.

Estimates suggest that about 3 million individuals have contracted the flu this season, with around 37,000 requiring hospitalization and more than 1,500 deaths reported due to the virus.

Consequently, hospitals in some states—including California, Indiana, New Jersey, and Illinois—have returned to stricter protocols. Meanwhile, officials in states like New York are recommending that the public resume wearing masks, especially when using public transportation or visiting crowded places.
