The unfortunate and shocking assassination of UnitedHealthcare CEO, Brian Thompson, has taken a new turn as significant details have emerged regarding the tragic event.
It’s been revealed that the assassin left a puzzling message on the bullets committed to the heinous act. This peculiar detail hints at deeper motives behind this premeditated crime.
The incident unfolded outside a prominent Midtown hotel on a seemingly regular Wednesday morning. Police reports indicate that words like “deny,” “depose,” and “defend” were intricately engraved onto the bullets themselves.
In a well-planned attack, a masked assailant inflicted several gunshots on the 50-year-old CEO. This occurred near the break of dawn, approximately around 6:46 AM, after which the shooter hastily fled the chaotic scene.
Intriguingly, these cryptic messages bear resemblance to a book titled “Delay, Deny, Defend,” famous for its critical outlook on the insurance sector, perfectly mirroring the industry where the late Thompson was a renowned figure.
Investigators managed to recover three live bullets along with three casings, methodically combing the vicinity of the Hilton hotel on Sixth Avenue for further evidence.
Brian Thompson, at the time of his untimely demise, was preparing to lead an investors’ meeting scheduled for the same morning.
The assailant, equipped with a silencer and presumably possessing substantial expertise with firearms, awaited his target outside the hotel. Witnesses and reports suggest the gunman executed the attack at an alarmingly close range.
During the frightening encounter with Thompson, the gunman faced a weapon malfunction. Yet, he skillfully unjammed it, continuing with his deadly mission until the victim could no longer stand. The assassin then fled through an alley, hastily pedaling away on an e-bike into Central Park, a place notoriously lacking clear CCTV coverage.
Police revealed a minor yet crucial mistake made by the suspect prior to the incident. He had stopped at a Starbucks where he purchased a simple meal:
– A coffee
– A water bottle
– Two power bars
These small purchases, discarded nearby, are now vital pieces of the investigative puzzle.
A cellphone found in the vicinity also led officials to seek a search warrant, hoping to uncover more layers of this mystery.
Further exploration into the case indicates the suspect arrived from Atlanta on a New York City bus the previous month. Staying at HI New York City Hostel, he used a name other than his own to check in, as per reports from ABC 7.
Keeping a low profile, the gunman donned a mask throughout his stay, except for a brief exchange with the hostel’s receptionist when the mask was partially lifted.
NYPD Chief of Detectives, Joe Kenny, shared, “Based on the evidence we have so far, it does appear the victim was specifically targeted,” adding that motives remain unclear and that this is not perceived as a chance act of aggression.
As the vigorous manhunt persists, a reward of $10,000 is being offered for any information leading to the suspect’s identification or capture.
Paulette Thompson, the CEO’s bereaved wife, disclosed the existence of earlier threats directed at her husband. However, it appears the incidents went unreported to police at the time.
