On November 10th, the Princess of Wales attended the Remembrance Service in London, sparking interest with her appearance at the Cenotaph’s Remembrance Sunday service. Spectators were thrilled to see her there and noted an intriguing exchange between her and the Duchess of Edinburgh.
This occasion marked another public appearance for the 42-year-old Princess of Wales, who has recently completed her cancer treatment, a journey she first shared with the public in March, describing it as ‘preventative’ care.
By July, she was back at center stage alongside Princess Charlotte during the 2024 Wimbledon tournament, where she received a warm standing ovation.
In a short span of time, she also participated in a congratulatory video with Prince William, celebrating Team GB’s accomplishments at the 2024 Olympics. By September, she fully resumed her royal duties, announcing in a heartfelt video that she was cancer-free after her chemotherapy.
Kate’s Return to Royal Duties
This weekend, Kate was in attendance with King Charles III and other royals for the Remembrance event, although Queen Camilla was absent due to a chest infection. Kate was initially supposed to stand on the central balcony alone but was joined by Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, on an adjacent balcony instead.
Sophie and Kate watched the wreath-laying ceremony together, a solemn event in memory of those lost in the World Wars and later conflicts. During this live televised moment, the two were seen engrossed in conversation.
Unveiling Their Words
A lip reader, Kayleigh Harris, shared insights with The Sun about what might have been exchanged between the two. According to Harris, Kate seemed to say, “She will be supported in this,” to which Sophie allegedly replied, “Yes, and especially…” with the remainder of her sentence being unclear. Kate was also seen saying “it’s so special” and added, “You’re never quite ready for this,” with Sophie reportedly agreeing, “Yes, absolutely.”
These observations have drawn in other experts too. Body language analyst Judi James told The Mirror that Sophie’s gesture of placing her gloved hand over Kate’s was a signal intended for Prince William.
“Sophie took on a supporting role for William in his absence,” James noted. “She engaged with Kate, standing beside her on the balcony. While Kate exuded confidence in a spot once reserved for the late Queen, Sophie appeared as a vigilant companion, much like Anne does with Charles.”
Continuing with her analysis, James observed, “There was a brief touch or pat on Kate’s back as she moved inside. This gesture not only offered maternal care and congratulations to her niece-in-law but also served to reassure William that Kate is well-protected when he’s not around.”
