Vice President Kamala Harris reached out to President-elect Donald Trump on Wednesday, officially conceding in the recent presidential election.
Details have emerged from Trump’s team regarding the exchange during this concession call.
A senior aide to Harris confirmed that she called Trump to offer her congratulations. Her campaign manager, Jen O’Malley Dillon, informed the team that Harris assured Trump of a peaceful transition from President Biden’s administration to his own.
In a heartfelt message to the campaign staff, O’Malley Dillon expressed, “You put everything into this campaign. You’ve built a historic presidential campaign in just 90 days. Even as you faced unprecedented challenges, you showed resilience. The pain of losing is intense and will take time to process. Yet, our work to safeguard America from the impacts of another Trump presidency begins now.”
Trump’s campaign communications director, Steven Cheung, noted that Trump acknowledged Harris for her strength, professionalism, and perseverance during the campaign. Both leaders concurred on the critical importance of uniting the nation moving forward.
As projected, Trump’s victory in Arizona marked a clean sweep of all battleground states against Harris in the 2024 election.
His success in states such as Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Georgia, Michigan, Wisconsin, Nevada, and Arizona resulted in a total of 312 Electoral College votes, securing the highest count for any candidate in the race.
Leading up to the election, polls suggested a tight competition, with Trump holding an average lead of 2.8 points over Harris. Regarding campaign expenditures in Arizona, this year saw a rise in spending compared to the 2020 election.
In 2020, around $427 million was spent by both parties across all political races in Arizona. In contrast, the spending surged to $487 million in 2024, with the Democrats allocating $308 million and the Republicans $147 million. For the presidential race alone, Democrats spent $122 million compared to the Republicans’ $83 million, reported by the Daily Wire.
Shortly after the election results declared Trump’s victory over Harris, Vice President-elect J.D. Vance expressed his enthusiasm.
On the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, Vance thanked those who supported him, acknowledging a successful night for Republicans.
He tweeted, “THANK YOU! To my wonderful wife for enabling this journey. To President Donald J. Trump for allowing me to serve our nation. And to the American people for their confidence. I pledge to tirelessly advocate for ALL of you.”
During his triumphant speech at Trump Headquarters in West Palm Beach, Florida, early Wednesday morning, Trump remarked, “God spared [his] life for a reason” as he celebrated his victory.
Having survived two assassination attempts since July, Trump expressed his gratitude for a second chance at presidency, sharing his vision with his supporters during the 25-minute speech.
“This is a grand triumph for the American people, paving the way for making America great once more. Having conquered the battlegrounds of North Carolina — places dear to my heart — Georgia, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, we are now victorious in Michigan, Arizona, Nevada, and Alaska, ensuring at least 315 electoral votes,” Trump stated to an enthusiastic crowd chanting “USA!”
“Many affirmations have come my way, underscoring that God preserved my life with a purpose — to save our nation and rejuvenate its greatness,” Trump declared. “Together, we shall fulfill this mission.”
He concluded, “Thank you. Thank you very much. Securing the popular vote is a delightful victory, enveloped in love. The energy here, among these phenomenal individuals journeying with me, is unforgettable. We shall make you proud of your choice.”
