Photojournalist GMB Akash has moved many hearts across the globe with a heartfelt story he shared on Facebook.
This is the tale of a devoted father named Idris, who toils diligently every day to ensure his children receive an education—a privilege he never had himself.
Idris shares, “I never disclosed my real job to my children. I wanted to protect them from any shame associated with me. Whenever my youngest daughter inquired about my work, I hesitantly claimed to be a laborer.”
However, that wasn’t the whole truth.
Children often remain unaware of the sacrifices their parents willingly make to provide them with a better future. They tend to focus on trivial matters, largely because understanding life’s harsh realities comes with age.
This remarkable father unveils his poignant story—how he kept his work secret from his children, ultimately discovering what truly matters in life.
Dive into this inspiring narrative that is sure to offer a fresh perspective.
Throughout my life, I kept my profession concealed from my children. I never wanted them to feel embarrassed because of me. Whenever my youngest daughter asked about my job, I would reply, hesitatingly, that I was merely a laborer.
Every day before returning home, I would use public facilities to freshen up, ensuring they never caught a hint of my reality. My desire was to see my daughters educated; I wanted them to carry themselves with respect and dignity.
Despite being belittled by others, I dreamed of a life where no one would look down upon them as they did me. I invested every penny I had into my daughters’ education. Skipping new clothes for myself, I preferred spending on their books.

All I ever desired for them was respect. My actual job was as a cleaner.
Approaching the deadline for my daughter’s college admission, I couldn’t gather her fees. That day, I was overwhelmed and unable to work. Seated next to a pile of rubbish, I struggled to hide my tears as my coworkers observed silently.
I was devastated at my failure and feared facing my daughter without the required admission money.
Being born into poverty, I’d resigned to the belief that good fortune evades the poor. Afterward, my fellow cleaners approached, sitting beside me, and asked if I regarded them as brothers. Without waiting for my answer, they offered me a day’s earnings.
While I initially refused, they insisted, “We can endure hunger today, but your daughter must attend college.”

I was speechless. Without washing, I returned home that day, a cleaner on the outside but with renewed hope within.
As my daughter nears the completion of her university journey, her three sisters ensure I no longer work. She holds a part-time job, while they all contribute through tutoring. Frequently, she visits my former workplace, bringing meals for my old colleagues and me.
They jokingly inquire why she consistently treats them. Her response? “You all went hungry for my sake that day, allowing me to reach where I am today. Pray that I may feed you every day.”
Now, I no longer feel impoverished. With children as wonderful as these, poverty seems a distant memory!
