The beloved musician, Sir Elton John, was helped off the stage by his husband, David Furnish, during the premiere of The Devil Wears Prada musical.
He had just shared a deeply personal revelation: ‘I’ve lost my eyesight and cannot see the stage.’
Sir Elton John, a cherished icon in music, made a heart-wrenching confession to his audience. The 77-year-old artist attended the premiere of The Devil Wears Prada musical at London’s West End, a grand event that turned emotional when he announced his vision loss and was escorted home by his spouse.
While addressing the crowd, Elton sincerely expressed, “I’ve lost my eyesight and cannot see the stage.”
His words resonated deeply, marking a poignant moment for his fans.
The legendary “Rocket Man” further elaborated, “Many of you might be aware of my struggles. Now, I have lost my sight. Although I couldn’t see the performance, experiencing it was delightful. A heartfelt thanks to my husband, who has been my steadfast support because I couldn’t attend many of the previews. It’s challenging to see, but listening has been joyous, and tonight sounded exceptional. Thank you all for being here!”
Earlier, Elton had shared insights about his condition, revealing that he became blind in his right eye after contracting an infection over the summer.
Discussing this on Good Morning America with Robin Roberts, Elton explained, “Regrettably, I lost sight in my right eye in July due to an infection I caught while in the South of France.”
Elton went on to add, “It’s been a challenging four months since I lost my vision. My left eye’s condition isn’t ideal either. I haven’t engaged in much recently, but I feel it’s time to get moving again.”
On the morning show, he candidly spoke about how this issue has thrown him off track but remained hopeful for future improvement. “It’s been a huge setback. I can’t see or read or watch anything. However, there’s hope that recovery is possible. I’m somewhat stuck at present. My ability to go into the studio and record is uncertain because I can’t read any lyrics right now,” he admitted.
In September, Elton reached out to his followers on Instagram, sharing, “Throughout the summer, I’ve faced a severe eye infection that has left me with limited vision in one eye. The healing process is painfully slow, requiring considerable time for my sight to return fully in the affected eye.
“I am incredibly thankful for the excellent medical team and my family’s unwavering support during these challenging weeks. I’ve been spending the summer away from public life, focusing on recuperation, and remain optimistic about the healing I’ve experienced so far. My sincerest thanks and love to all who have supported me.”
