Cherishing Our Parents: A Heartfelt Tale

Once upon a time, there was a son who, after his father’s passing, made the difficult decision of placing his beloved mother in a retirement home. Though he often visited, life seemed to carry him away more often than he’d like to admit.

One fateful day, he received an urgent call from the home. “Your mother is very ill. Please come at once,” the voice on the other end said, filled with urgency.

His heart heavy, the son rushed to her bedside, where he found his mother frail and noticeably weakened.

As he stood beside her, he gently asked, “Mother, is there anything I can do for you?”

Her response was both surprising and touching. She faintly whispered, “If you could, please arrange for fans to be installed here. The rooms are so hot, and there’s no comfort in the heat. Also, place a refrigerator in the kitchen to help keep the food fresh. So often, I’ve had to go without a proper meal.”

The son couldn’t hide his bewilderment and questioned, “Why mention these things now, when you have so little time left? Why didn’t you tell me sooner?”

With profound wisdom in her eyes and a voice filled with both love and regret, she explained, “I never wanted to burden you. But now, my dear, I wish for you to make these changes not for me, but for yourself. One day, your own children might decide on a similar path for you. I want this place to be ready for that day, in case it comes. Remember, son, life gives back what we put out there.”

Her parting words echoed in his heart: “What you give is what you get.” The lesson was clear—a reminder of the importance of kindness and foresight, urging him to cherish and take care of those we love.
