When our Uber finally pulled over at the curb, my husband and I stepped out of our house, only to find our plump feline slipping between our legs.
She dashed straight up the stairs with remarkable speed. Now, anyone who owns an adventurous kitty and a fragile parakeet knows, you can’t just leave them together without supervision.
So, in a protective panic, my husband rushed back inside to chase her down and safely relocate her to the backyard.
Concerned about leaving the wrong impression with our Uber driver, and wary of letting him in on the fact our house would be empty all evening, I casually remarked that my husband was simply getting ready to say goodnight to my mother and would join us shortly.
Soon enough, my husband slid into the backseat beside me, flustered and catching his breath.
Much to my bemusement and initial horror, he began recounting his escapade as the Uber car started moving away. “Sorry for the delay,” he said, “but our silly furball was determined to hide under the bed.
I had no choice but to prod her a bit with a coat hanger until she reluctantly came out!
As I attempted to contain my laughter and embarrassment, he continued, “That feisty creature nearly took off on me, so I had to gently grab her by the neck and bundle her up in a blanket, just to avoid her sharp claws this time. It worked, though! I managed to lug her chubby self down the staircase and tossed her safely into the garden. Let’s just hope she doesn’t make a mess in the vegetable patch again!”
The level of silence that followed inside the Uber was astounding.
Our driver, no doubt, was picturing something completely different as descriptions unfolded—pets, they’ve got an unparalleled way of making even the most routine of evenings memorable!
