In recent days, the newly elected President, Donald Trump, has voiced his concerns about the devastating fires in California. He has expressed disappointment with how the state’s governor has managed the situation.
Through his social media channel, Truth Social, Trump has directly pointed the finger at Governor Gavin Newsom, attributing the ongoing fire disasters to his decisions.

He criticized Governor Newsom for not approving a water restoration declaration that could have diverted millions of gallons of water from melting snow and rain in the northern regions to areas affected by the fires.

Trump expressed his view that Newsom prioritized a small fish species called smelt, which thrives in lower water conditions, over the well-being of California’s residents. Trump asserted that this decision did not have the intended effect of protecting the fish while betraying the citizens’ needs.

According to Trump, it was crucial for the governor to ensure a steady flow of clean and fresh water into the state, hinting at possible preventative measures for the current fires. He believes that Californians are now bearing the consequences of this decision.
