An unexpected ordeal unfolded for a couple from Oklahoma who ended up paying an astounding $4,500 bill for merely two cups of coffee at Starbucks.

Jesse O’Dell and his wife Deedee, regular patrons of the coffee giant for over 16 years, typically budget about $10 for their morning caffeine fix. However, on one fateful day, what was supposed to be their usual purchase turned into an unforeseen financial burden.

Jesse shared their story with Fox 23, explaining, “I ordered the Iced Americano and my wife always gets the Venti Caramel frappuccino with an extra shot. Normally, this sets us back nine to 10 bucks, maybe $10.75 with the extra shot.”

To their shock, the couple was billed an eye-popping $4,456.27 due to an accidental $4,444 gratuity charge applied by Starbucks.

The mistake went unnoticed until Deedee attempted some shopping with their four children, only to find her card declined.

Upon discovering the issue, she promptly reached out to the district manager of the coffee chain, who cited a network glitch as the cause.

Initially relieved upon receiving two checks covering the erroneous charge, their relief was short-lived when both checks bounced at the bank.

“We must have contacted their customer service 30 to 40 times that day, initiating new cases until someone responded,” Jesse recounted.

“Finally, a representative from Seattle got in touch, assuring us that new checks would be sent, yet even now, we haven’t received them.”

Exasperated by the handling of the case, the couple took the matter to the Tulsa Police Department, filing an official report.

They explained that they had to cancel a much-anticipated trip to Thailand, Deedee’s birthplace, due to this incident.

According to a Starbucks spokesperson, new checks had been dispatched to the couple, and they have since received them.

In light of their ordeal, Jesse advises everyone to pay close attention to their receipts to prevent experiencing a similar situation.
