It was a rainy afternoon when 16-year-old Adam came home drenched from a downpour. Despite the weather, he was in high spirits.
“Adam, those wet clothes aren’t good for you. Next time, call for a ride,” said his father, Steve, as Adam entered their home. But Adam was cheerful. “It’s alright, Dad,” he replied. “I met someone nice today and lent him my umbrella since he didn’t have one.”
“You should help yourself first before helping others, son!” Steve chided. “I don’t like seeing you come home like this!”
Adam shrugged off his father’s concerns. “Relax, Dad. He stood up for me against some bullies. His name’s Kevin, and he’s a nice guy.”
Steve felt uneasy. Kevin was a familiar name, linked back to a time he preferred to forget. He quickly realized that Kevin was the child of his former employee, Patrick, whom Steve had fired for attempted theft. Concerned, Steve warned Adam about getting too close to Kevin.
“That boy is only using you, Adam! His father tried to steal from me, and I fired him,” Steve declared. “You should steer clear of him.”
Adam, however, did not concur with his father. “Dad, Kevin’s not like that. I can’t blame him for his father’s mistakes,” Adam insisted, maintaining his friendship with Kevin.

Patrick was reluctant at first, but Steve and Adam convinced him to accept the help. “We should care for each other,” Steve said. “Our sons showed us the true meaning of friendship and understanding.”
The two families reconciled, and Adam and Kevin’s friendship grew stronger than ever, teaching both Steve and Patrick a valuable lesson about forgiveness and compassion. They learned that empathy could bridge gaps that anger and resentment could not.
