Prince William and Princess Kate have decided to forgo the annual royal pre-Christmas brunch, a longstanding tradition typically attended by senior members of the royal family at Buckingham Palace.
This festive gathering is part of the cherished customs of the royal family, where the King extends his invitations well in advance, expecting the presence of his family members.
According to a palace insider who spoke with the Times UK, the Prince and Princess of Wales are absent from this occasion because they are currently spending time in Norfolk with their children, marking the beginning of the holiday season.
The family has chosen Norfolk as their holiday destination, completely in company with their kids, thus explaining their absence from the pre-Christmas lunch.
Clarifications have been provided by various sources regarding the family’s nonattendance, emphasizing that it is not linked to Prince Andrew’s withdrawal from the event, which has been under speculation due to reports of his connections with Chinese spies.
King Charles was seen on his way to the palace for the brunch, accompanied by his private secretary in the car.
Prince Edward and his wife Sophie were among the familiar faces arriving for the brunch. This yearly merriment happens around a week before Christmas with the attendance of approximately 70 guests, maintaining a tradition of togetherness and joy.
In the previous year, the festive feast was held at Windsor Castle, courtesy of King Charles. This year, in a nod to beloved traditions, the event has returned to Buckingham Palace, as it was faithfully conducted during Queen Elizabeth II’s time.
