Luigi Mangione, the suspect in the shooting of UnitedHealth’s CEO, has made some startling accusations, claiming that authorities have ‘planted’ evidence on him.
It all began on a quiet Monday morning in Altoona, Pennsylvania, when Mangione was spotted at a local McDonald’s. A vigilant customer recognized him and promptly alerted the police.
According to reports, Mangione was found with a suspicious array of items, including a 3D-printed pistol, a 3D-printed silencer, a fully loaded magazine with six bullets, and a backpack brimming with cash.
Authorities also discovered that Mangione had a U.S. passport and a substantial sum of money—around $8,000 in U.S. currency and $2,000 in foreign bills. However, Mangione has contested this claim, suggesting that the money didn’t belong to him.
In his defense, Mangione stated that the cash authorities reported finding on him was not his own and may have been planted there.
CNN provided further insights into the hearing, highlighting Mangione’s intriguing remarks following discussions about bail.
As the prosecutors laid out their findings, they noted the discovery of $8,000 in American cash, $2,000 in foreign currency, his passport, and a Faraday bag. The Faraday bag is designed to block cell signals, raising additional questions about Mangione’s intentions.
After the prosecutor’s speech, Mangione made a statement that caught attention: “I actually want to address two of the things that you said. I don’t know where that money came from. I’m not sure if it was planted.”
As of now, Mangione remains in custody with no bail offered. He is facing multiple charges, including a serious felony count for forgery and a felony for carrying a firearm without the proper license.
