Elon Musk’s young son, X Æ A-Xii, recently made an unexpected appearance during an interview, revealing the correct way to say his distinctive name.
It’s no secret that celebrities often choose unique names for their children. Consider Apple, Blue Ivy, Pilot, and Bear Blaze – just to name a few examples from famous parents like Gwyneth Paltrow, Chris Martin, Beyoncé, Jay-Z, and Kate Winslet.
Elon Musk, known for suggesting the importance of having children to boost population numbers, has fathered 12 children with three different partners.
He shares six children with his ex-wife, Justine Wilson. Their first child, a son named Nevada, sadly passed away as an infant. They then welcomed twin boys and triplets.
The twins include Griffin, born in 2004, and his sibling Vivian, who has openly shared differing views about her father. In 2022, Vivian legally changed her name and gender, stating, “I no longer live with or wish to be related to my biological father in any way, shape or form.”
The triplets, born in 2006, are Kai, Saxon, and Damian. The couple divorced two years later.
Musk next partnered with musician Grimes, and in 2020 they had their first child together. Initially named X Æ A-12, the name later became X Æ A-Xii to comply with California’s naming laws.
During an appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience, Musk explained the pronunciation is “X Ash A Twelve.”
“The idea for the name originates mostly from my partner,” Musk mentioned. “It starts with ‘X,’ the letter ‘X,’ followed by ‘Æ,’ pronounced ‘Ash.’ ‘A-12’ was my contribution,” he added.
During a recent interview with Tucker Carlson, little X charmed everyone by providing a firsthand demonstration on pronouncing his name.
Following their split in 2021, Musk and Grimes tried rekindling their relationship briefly before separating permanently. They welcomed a second child via surrogate in December 2021, a girl named Exa Dark Sidaræl. Grimes stated in Vanity Fair that the name is spoken as “sigh-deer-ee-el,” with the nickname “Y.”
When asked about their relationship status, Grimes described it as complex, saying, “There’s no real word for it. I might say he’s my boyfriend, but we’re quite fluid. We live in separate homes and remain best friends, often seeing each other. We have our own dynamic.”
She also expressed a desire for more children with Musk, adding, “We’ve aspired to have at least three or four.”
In March 2022, Grimes announced their breakup on social media: “Me and E have broken up *again* since writing this article haha, but he’s still my best friend and the love of my life, and life and art are forever tied to The Mission now.”
In June 2022, they welcomed a third child, named Techno Mechanicus Musk, or “Tau.”
The New York Times reviewed Walter Isaacson’s biography on Musk, which revealed the news about baby Techno’s birth.
Grimes later confirmed the information online, stating, “I wish I could show you how adorable little Techno is, but at this moment, keeping my children out of the public eye is a priority. Please respect that.”
In September 2023, Grimes initiated legal proceedings seeking parental rights against Musk.
In November 2021, Musk welcomed another set of twins, Strider and Azure, with Shivon Zilis.
According to Isaacson’s Musk biography, Zilis is described as Musk’s “intellectual companion in artificial intelligence since OpenAI was founded eight years earlier.”
In 2024, they welcomed a third child together, though the name and gender remain private for now.
Musk mentioned to Page Six, “All our friends and family are aware. The non-release of a press statement does not mean it’s secret!”
