Manager Forced Waitress to Serve Leftovers to Foreign Customer

Higashi, a visitor from Japan, stepped into a bustling restaurant with a hunger for a satisfactory meal. Unbeknownst to him, Andy, a veteran waiter with a knack for deceit, was about to serve him some unpleasant hospitality. With disdain for foreigners who struggled with English, Andy decided to give Higashi reheated leftovers. Little did he know, this time, fate had a different plan in store.

The restaurant, Sizzling Steak, buzzed with evening activity. A new waitress, Louise, was trying her best to navigate through the tables, unsure but smiling. That’s when she noticed a smartly dressed middle-aged man from Japan, his traditional attire standing out elegantly amongst the crowd.

The newcomer, Higashi, scanned his surroundings before choosing a secluded spot by the window. Louise approached him, offering a warm “Welcome to Sizzling Steak,” to which the man responded with a friendly smile and a nod.

Higashi spoke quickly in Japanese while pointing to a succulent steak image. “Steak,” he managed to repeat in English, adding a little confusion, “With rice… rice bowl!”

Louise, relying on her minimal Japanese knowledge, understood his wish. “Yes, sir,” she assured him quickly, attempting to match his enthusiasm. “We have a lovely steak! Though we don’t offer rice bowls, would fries be a good substitute?”

Higashi readily accepted. “Fries! Yes, yes!” As Louise left to arrange the order, a dreaded feeling washed over her. There was a plate with a leftover steak sitting on the counter. It was meant for disposal. She reached to clear it away, disgusted by its cold state.

“Stop right there!” a rough voice commanded. “What are you thinking of doing, getting rid of perfectly good food?”

It was Andy, ever the cynical senior waiter, with a permanent frown etched on his face. Spotting the customer from afar, he grinned mischievously.

“Waste not, want not,” he chortled, grabbing the plate from her hand. “Serve it,” he instructed.

Louise’s face flushed with horror. “We can’t do this, Mr. Miller! It’s not…proper,” she urged.

“Ease up,” Andy replied dismissively. “He won’t know the difference — a tourist who can’t even complain.”

“What if he finds out?” Louise worried aloud, fear creeping in.

Unfazed, Andy chuckled again. “Louise, really? He’s just another foreigner. Easy money, nothing to worry about.”

Despite her unease, Louise felt trapped with no choice but to yield to Andy’s demand or risk losing her job — a grim thought weighing heavily on her.

Trembling, Louise picked up the cold tray and reluctantly placed it before Higashi.

Baffled, Higashi pointed at the food, “Not what I wanted,” he said to Louise. Before she could respond, Andy interjected, glaring at her with annoyance.

“What’s the issue here?” he barked, before placing the plate back aggressively before the tourist. “Eat up, Jackie Chan,” he jeered, drawing attention from those nearby.

Louise felt a surge of anger. “Mr. Miller, that’s enough! We owe him respect as a customer,” she implored, trying to reason with Andy.

Higashi, taken aback and insulted, got up to leave, but as he did, a bundle of cash slipped from his wallet, catching Andy’s greedy eye.

Realizing the opportunity, Andy stepped in with uncanny charm, blocking Higashi and his path.

“Hold on there, friend,” Andy said, false friendliness lining his voice. “That’s some impressive cash. Here, let me offer a redo — on the house.”

As Louise looked on in disgust, Andy pushed the hundred-dollar bill into her hand, pulling her into his deceit.

The scenario spiraled out of what Louise could manage. Andy was desperate, and she was unsure of her next steps.

Higashi’s mood shifted to surprise as Andy presented a spread of delectable dishes. Grilled salmon and teriyaki chicken filled the air with savory aromas, an unfamiliar but delicious scent to him. A bottlenecked sake completed this unexpected gesture.

“A show of our gratitude!” Andy proclaimed, phony jubilation evident in his words. Higashi, confused, asked, “Free?”

“Absolutely!” answered Andy, significantly altering his tone. He poured a cup of sake, but a sudden mishap caused the drink to splash onto Higashi’s coat.

Mortified, Andy profusely apologized, “Oh heavens, my dear friend, a thousand apologies. Worry not, we offer magnificent dry cleaning services here!”

Attempting to take the coat, Higashi pulled it back. “Is okay, is okay,” he reassured, reluctant to part with it.

Insistent, Andy tried again. Louise stepped in, “Mr. Miller, the coat can dry on its own, please stop,” she cried.

Andy responded harshly, “Stay out of this, girl.” As Louise spoke, Andy seized the coat and headed into a room labeled “Staff Only.” Higashi, puzzled and uneasy, was left in the lurch.

In a hurry to fix things, Louise followed Andy into the room, catching him red-handed stealing money from Higashi’s coat pocket.

“You can’t do this, Mr. Miller, it’s a crime!” she confronted him, shaking with fear.

“You have no idea, Louise,” Andy smirked, “this could be life-changing. Now go, and forget it.”

But morality overpowered fear for Louise, “No! It’s wrong! Return it!” she said adamantly.

When pressured again by Andy, she feigned acceptance, taking the money reluctantly.

Once Andy left, Louise took matters into her own hands, breaking into Andy’s locker to retrieve Higashi’s money for rightful return.

Back at the table, Louise approached Higashi, urging clarity through demonstrative actions and a translation app to explain Andy’s deceit.

Suddenly, any pretense between Higashi and Andy vanished. A police officer entered the scene, arresting Andy who tried falsely implicating Louise and Higashi as criminals, holding video footage of Louise trying to return the cash as “proof.”

But Higashi had the real reveal up his sleeve—his money, marked with blue ink, making Andy’s crime visible.

The officer, convinced of Higashi’s innocence, further witnessed Louise’s transparency as she led him to verify the surveillance cameras, exonerating her.

Andy was detained, his self-inflicted misfortune teaching a lesson on integrity.

With Higashi thanking Louise for her honesty, he extended a job opportunity to her at his office in New York, grateful for her courage.

“It’s something you truly earned,” Higashi smiled, handing her his business card as a token of appreciation for her bravery.

As these events underscored important life lessons, they also highlighted how simple acts of honesty can indeed change lives for the better.
